Visit a park or beach

You will need:

To know where your local parks and/or closest beaches are

You can:

At the park

• Move in space

• Play with shadows

• Watch leaves in the wind

• Fly a kite

• Collect leaves in autumn

• Smell different smells around the park

• Touch different textures (e.g. grass, bark) and use language such as rough or smooth

• Listen to birdsong and other sounds

At the beach

• Jump in the waves

• Watch birds

• Make sandcastles

• Draw in sand with sticks and/or fingers

• Fill containers with water

• Build drains and moats

• Watch the tide changing

• Walk along the high tide mark and see what you can find

You can also:

• Run around

• Collect small objects for collage work

• Walk backwards

• Play with a ball

• Have a picnic

• Talk about how things grow

• Talk about tides, the sea, rain water

• Become involved in community planting (through your local council – e.g. trees for babies, Twin Streams)
