Blow bubbles
You will need:• Dishwashing liquid and water (50/50) • A bowl • Pipe cleaners |
You can:
• Make up some bubble mixture in a bowl
• Make a circle shape with a pipe cleaner handle
• Dip the pipe cleaner into the bubble mixture and when a surface has formed blow on this gently to create a bubble
• See how creative you can be with your bubbles (e.g. one big one, five little ones, join a whole lot together)
You can also:
• Add just a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to some water and use a straw to blow bubbles
• You can get bubble wands and mixture from the $2 shop
• A scissor handle can be used in place of pipe cleaners (tape the scissor blades together first)
To make bigger and longer lasting bubbles combine:
1 cup water
2 tablespoons glycerine (this can be purchased from a chemist)
4 tablespoons dishwashing liquid
Mix together and have fun!
Did you know:
• Bubbles are made of warm air that is trapped inside a hollow liquid ball
• The colours visible in bubbles come from light that is reflected on to the bubble’s surface
• Bubbles float up because warm air is lighter than cold air
• Some mixtures produce longer lasting bubbles if you put them in the fridge for a few minutes
What your child is learning:
• To understand the nature and properties of bubbles
• To have fun and enjoy themselves with no particular objective in mind
